MEET HAYLEY CHAMPOUX

CREATIVE/THRIFT DISCO FOUNDER

I’ve only known Hayley Champoux for a couple of months. But every time I’ve seen her, it’s my curious wonder and joy to see what outfit she’s carefully put together and with all confidence, pulled off.

Hayley is from Ohio, but lives in Bushwick. She studied design and production at FIT, but works as a creative at Team Epiphany, making the pages of Nike.com/NYC come to life. But Hayley’s spunky, sweet, on another level attitude makes the one question you thought you had for her, multiply. “Creative” only just begins to describe her warm and intriguing personality.

Her favorite spots, prized possession and recent playlist very much show the many sides of the girl who once used to cheerlead, wonders where the Miss Sixty store that was on Broadway disappeared to and throws a little big deal of an event called Thrift Disco that’s taking place again for the fifth time on June 7th during Bushwick Open Studios at Lot 45. Think of it as a mini, curated flea of 13 vendors that only she could bring together.

In anticipations for that, we’re introducing you to Hayley this week so you can ask her all about her favorite vendors and makers at Thrift Disco, and while you’re there, find coffee, a drink or pizza at her go-to spots.

THINK : AP CAFÉ

Great for reflecting. The owners are architects, which is quite apparent given the attention to detail. You'll find succulents, great coffee and tea, a freaking waterfall, and a lot of space to inspire thinking (or not thinking).

EAT : UNION PIZZA WORKS

Low key better than Roberta's. I think I've tried every kale salad in at least three boroughs, and this is the running champion -- Al fresco = perfect spot for summer.

PRIZED POSSESSION: JEWELRY BOX

I bought a really beautiful glass jewelry box in Amsterdam when I visited this past fall. It has slowly become my mini-offering, filled with stones, pictures, ephemera. I like to burn palo santo and just reflect by it for a moment.

TAKE A GIRL FRIEND: THE LOOM

I like to bring my gurls to The Loom, a cute space on Flushing Ave. Kavé the coffee shop inside has more than enough room to get cozy, relax, work, chat, etc. The Loom's Yoga center in the back of the building is growing like crazy. Teachers are devoted, classes are challenging, and going with a galfriend is always uplifting and positive for both parties!

TAKE A GUY FRIEND: MARIA HERNANDEZ PARK

Depending on their preferences, either Maria Hernandez Park for a stroll or a night at Pearl's. Pearl's is definitely the best bar in the neighborhood, always a good vibe and friendly people (and dogs!)

Sister Nancy: 'Bam Bam' (because summer)
Topaz Gang: 'SK8 2gether' (because UK djs)
