MEET LAUREN CHUNG

STYLIST • WRITER • DJ • DESIGNER

Lauren Demith Chung (aka LOLOCHUNG) has made her name as a stylist, writer, DJ and designer. The multi-talented SCAD graduate started her New York journey after being invited up to help open Bookmarc in the West Village. Her mellow attitude, eloquence and passion about all things creative made it pretty clear why she was the natural choice to help open up a bookstore for Marc Jacobs.

Six years after her move, Lauren has jumped from Chelsea to Greenpoint to South Williamsburg to Bushwick, finding her perfect spot off the Dekalb L stop. Despite her love for her current neighborhood, she knows that each place she's lived has shaped her and helped her grow in some way, which is totally reflected in her list of favorite places.

Lauren's apartment was the perfect place to start this shoot: Drawings and inspiration on the walls, prototypes for her jewelry collection on the table (watch out for this one), and an astounding collection of Interview.

She has styled for clients like Tracey Nicholson, Prada, Miu Miu, Proenza Schouler and Teen Vogue, DJed at Bar Below Rye and Paul's Baby Grand, and consulted with Phillip Lim, CFDA and Battenwear. With her work touching  so many varied areas in the city as well as reaching different names in fashion, Lauren has found a way to balance her time and do it the way she wants.

With a well-behaved dog at home and a full roster of projects ahead, Lauren Chung is living her Brooklyn dream.

THINK: CYPRESS INN

Very low key coffee spot, always get a bottomless cup of coffee and empanadas for breakfast. It's on the corner so it's nice to sit by the window and fall into a daydream.

SHOP: COLLECTIONS

I've been friends with the owner, Lucyann Wheeless, since our years of going to SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) and working at Marc Jacobs together. She has such a great eye for finding vintage that lines up with current trends and does a really great job of curating the floor of her always welcoming boutique. The shop just had it's second birthday!

TAKE A GIRLFRIEND: HOTEL DELMANO

One of the best curated cocktail menus Brooklyn has to offer. Their menu is seasonal, but I always ask for the Gold Lion from seasons past when I'm there (spicy and divine)! Great atmosphere and oysters, the perfect spot to indulge and catch up with your girls.

READ: MARIA HERNANDEZ PARK

Usually from the comfort of my own home, but when it's nice out I do enjoy a little R&R time at Maria Hernandez Park (Bushwick). It's nice to take Raf, my dog/child, to the dog park and catch up on some light reading.

EAT: TOM'S DINER

A landmark diner that opened in 1936 in Prospect Heights. Good ol American diner feels at this joint, especially when you see the kitschy decor and family style photos lining the walls from years passed. Also, I have a soft spot for Suzanne Vega's song "Tom's Diner" and always try to sit in the booth with her lyrics and signature framed above. (Supposedly it was written about the Tom's Diner up on 112 + Broadway in Manhattan, but I think it's all a Seinfeld-related conspiracy.)

DANCE: ENID'S OR BAR BELOW RYE

Enid's: I feel such a nostalgic connection to this place as it was my first neighborhood bar in Brooklyn. Many nights and memories at this place, perfect for dancing and having a few too many Frozen Harrisons.

BBR: I'm a little partial since I DJ here twice a month, but with chill staff and drinks what more could you ask for? I play on Saturdays, offering up a mix of r&b/hip-hop/dirty south throwbacks. Also, the food here is bomb!

TAKE A GUY FRIEND: KING NOODLE

Super rad and quirky restaurant offering up inventive Pan-Asian cuisine and Tiki style drinks. The Grilled Miso Corn and Mapo Tofu Chili Cheese fries are so dope! They also serve Scorpion Bowls (on fire!) if you're with a group or wanna get super wavey solo.
